Enjoy the perfect temptation of special snacks from the Dan People in Sanya
When coming to Sanya, in addition to the beautiful scenery, one cannot miss the local Dan specialties, including the Dan rice milk, sesame paste, red bean Babao porridge (also called Eight-Treasure Porridge, a reference to the many nutritious ingredients people used to cook it), corn & green bean porridge, glutinous rice cake, corn cake, coconut pudding, and more, all of which are unrefined and healthy foods.
Amongst these delicious specialties, the sweet and delicious Dan rice milk, a natural and healthy drink without any additives, is one of the most distinctive Dan snacks. It is cooked with a local green vegetable called Jiuhuacai that can only be purchased from local farmers, which makes the Dan rice milk have the medical treatment and health functions of clearing away heat and preventing coughs.
The Dan people also use the Jiuhuacai vegetable to make a steamed bun food with sesame seeds and peanuts, which not only looks beautiful and smells good but also tastes yummy.
Apart from delicious special snacks, it is also popular to eat fresh seafood in the fishing boats of the Dan communities. Hongsha Floating Seafood Restaurant (Hongshayupai: 红沙渔排) is the most famous one, which is located in the east of Dadonghai and is a little far from Sanya. Customers can take a free boat to get to the fishing boats. Many foreigners in Sanya enjoy this special Dan way of eating seafood.
