Sanya to start trials of low-altitude airspace tourism by end of 2012
A proposal to let tourists see parts of Sanya aboard aircraft flying at low altitudes has passed the evaluation of experts group and is expected to begin trials at the end of this year.
The proposal has specified its goal as to turn Sanya into a pilot city to promote "low-altitude tourism" across China. Tourism products concerning low-altitude airspace such as travelling to Sanya and an air tour between Sanya and Sanshan City will also be introduced into the plan.
The low-altitude airspace plan will allow tourists to explore the beauty of Sanya from different perspectives with the use of recreational aviation flights rather than commercial airplanes. It is expected that this kind of tourism will be introduced to tourists by the end of this year, said a local authority.
It is also the first plan in China to make it easier and faster for general aviation flights to be given the green light to use low-altitude airspace.
