In the early Song Dynasty, poet and writer Su Dongpo was banished from the political heart of China’s government to this hot and humid island on the fringes of Chinese society. He lived in and lectured at the academy in Danzhou for over three years. The academy was also a place for him to spread the culture and civilization of North China.

Yongqing Temple, Chengmai County
永庆寺, 澄迈县
Yongqing Temple lies in the western region of the Yingbin Peninsula in Chengmai County. It was built during the Northern Song Dynasty and is the largest Buddhist temple in northern Hainan.

Wenbifeng Pangu Cultural Tourism Area, Ding’an County

Wenbifeng Pangu Cultural Tourism Area is located at the foot of Wenbi Peak in Ding’an County. Since ancient times it has been referred to as a “land of treasure." The area features a quiet and tranquil natural environment, and various areas where the remains from ancient civilization can still be seen today.
Yuchan Temple, located in Wenbifeng Daoism Park, is one of the famous Taoist temples in Hainan.
Yuchan Temple was the final place of seclusion for the founding father of Southern Daoism, Bai Yuchan. It is the only legal Taoist temple in Hainan and the world’s largest and most complete Taoist architectural complex.

Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone, Sanya City
南山寺, 三亚市
Located 40 kilometers west of the Sanya city center, the park is an ideal eco-tourism and spiritual site for Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike.
"Nanshan” literally means “south mountain temple,” which originated from a famous Buddhist expression: “Good fortune as vast as the East Sea; longevity as high as Nanshan.”
The park is divided into three zones: Hainan Custom Culture Park, Blessing and Longevity Park, and Buddhism Culture Park.
