It’s rambutan season in Baoting! Come & enjoy picking the fruit!

The annual Baoting Rambutan Festival was kicked off in Baoting County, Hainan on September 20th, attracting many rambutan lovers to pick and savor this delectable fruit.

September and October in Baoting are the harvest season for rambutans. Rambutans grow in clusters on evergreen trees. They are hairy-looking little red balls with hair covering their surfaces. The inside of the fruit is sweet white flesh with a single large seed at the center that you have to spit out when eating the fruit.

Rambutans are high in vitamin C, copper, manganese, and possess trace elements of many other nutrients such as potassium, calcium, and iron.

During the harvest season, there are about 40 rambutan orchards in Baoting that open U-pick operations, especially in the areas of Jiamao Town, Sandao Town, Xinzheng Town, Xiangshui Town, and Zaling Town. It’s a delight to visit an orchard and wander among the rambutan trees, enjoying the sights and smells that can only be found here once a year.

There are various ways to participate in fruit picking. One convenient option is to join a day tour organized by local travel agents. For those who prefer to self-drive, the orchards also welcome walk-in tourists.

Visitors can also indulge in some sightseeing in the region. Nearby natural attractions include Mt. Qiqianling Forest Park, Binglanggu Valley, Yanoda Scenic Spot, and Bulongsai Country Tourism Zone.
