Sanya Phoenix International Airport is currently the only airport of the city. Located 11 kilometers northwest of Sanya downtown area, the airport is a short 20-minute drive from the city center, around 30 minutes from Yalong Bay and about 40 minutes from Haitang Bay.

 

Sanya Phoenix International Airport is the main gateway to Sanya. Since its opening on July 1, 1994, the airport has handled over 100 million passengers.

Haikou Meilan International Airport 海口美兰机场

Opened in 1999, Haikou Meilan International Airport is the largest airport in Hainan Province. It is located 20 km southeast of Haikou.

 

The airport features a green environment and sustainable features in its buildings. It is also touted as the first ecological garden airport in China.

 

The airport has now started its second phase expansion project, which is expected to open by 2020 and will be designed to provide a very high level of functional and aeronautical quality at the airport.

 

The expansion of the Haikou Airport will accelerate Hainan’s integration with the national “One Belt, One Road” strategic policy and elevate the province’s importance in the future. It will also have a positive effect on the island’s tourism and aviation industries.

Bo’ao Airport 博鳌机场

Construction of Boao Airport in Qionghai City is underway. The airport is expected to open in 2017.

 

Started on March 19, 2015, the new airport is located in southern Boao, 12 kilometers away from Qionghai. It is about 15 km west of the venue of BFA in Zhongyuan Town.

 

In line with a 4C class standard, Boao Airport will build a runway of 2,600 meters in length and 45 meters in width, as well as a terminal building covering 9,000 square meters and 26 parking bays. Upon its completion, the airport is designed to handle 480,000 passengers, 4,950 aircraft movements and 1,440 tons of cargo and mail per year by 2020.
