Hainan’s geography is so diverse that you feel like you are travelling to another dimension with each place you visit. The land is so connected to the culture of the people that most tourists will never get bored of exploring the many facets of this beautiful island.

 

Hainan has rich rivers and waters. The Nandu River, Changjiang River, Wanquan River and Ningyuan River are called Hainan’s 4 largest rivers.

 

If you are new to Hainan travel, there are also some other river systems worth visiting during your trip.

 

1.       Lingshui River 陵水河

 

 

Length: 73.5km

Through cities and counties: Baoting County and Lingshui County

 

The Lingshui River rises in Xianfang Mountain of the northeastern Baoting Li and Miao Autonomous County and flows eastward across the Lingshui Li Autonomous County to empty into the South China Sea. The river has a length of 73.5 km and drains an area of 1,131 square km.

 

2.       Wanglou River 望楼河

 

 

Length: 87km

Through cities and counties: Ledong County

 

Wanglou River is the second largest river in Ledong County, following the Changhua River. The Wanglou River originates from the Jianfengling Mountain at a length of 87 kilometers. Natural ports can be seen along the river include Yinggehai Port, Lingtou Port and Wanglou Port.

 

3.       Taiyang River 太阳河

 

 

Through cities and counties: Qiongzhong County and Wanning City

 

The Taiyang River rises in Hongding Mountain of southeastern Qiongzhong County and flows eastward across Wanning City to empty into the South China Sea. The river has a length of 75.7 km and drains an area of 593 sq km.

 

4.       Tengqiao River 藤桥河

 

 

Length: 56.1km

Through cities and counties: Baoting County and Sanya City

 

Originating in the Angri Ridge in Baoting County, it flows generally southeast to Sanya and empties into the Haitang Bay. It is one of the 4 rivers with an area up to 100 square kilometers running from Sanya district into the sea.
