If you are planning to enjoy a view of tropical scenery on your trip to Hainan, Lingshui in Hainan is a suitable choice, as it is not as crowded as Sanya and also offers interesting places to see.

Lingshui is located on the South East Coast, about 70km from Sanya as the crow flies.

There are a number of well known tourist spots located in the county, including Monkey Island and the Yetian Li & Miao Village.

Here are some recommendations:

1. Lingshui Yetian Li & Miao Village

Hainans biggest ethnic group is the Li, Hainans first inhabitants, and tourists now can spend a day at the Yetian Li & Miao Village, a fairly commercial village that caters to tourists.

Here, a young man demonstrates the Li tradition for impressing women: climbing a tree to procure betel nut, which locals in southern China and southeast Asia chew for its stimulant properties.

For fun or for experience, here you can try their traditional wedding ceremony for an extra charge.

2.       Nanwan Monkey Island

Nanwan Monkey Island is located on the Nanwan peninsula in Lingshui county on the south coast of Hainan, the southernmost province of China.

As the only island-type nature reserve for macaque monkeys in the world, it is home to over 2,500 monkeys and about 400 kinds of tropical plants.

The island’s primitive natural environment makes it a perfect place for monkeys. Since its establishment in 1965, the island has become a popular tourist destination.

3. Snack at local restaurants

Good food is always an important part of a perfect journey. Lingshui has many traditional snacks that taste delicious. If you come here, go to local restaurants and enjoy some traditional snacks like Lingshui Sour Rice Noodle or head to the seafood village off Nanwan Monkey Island to enjoy tuna, crab, mussels, prawns, oysters, abalone, sea cucumbers and many other delicacies such as coconut squid–all freshly prepared.
