The Danzhou Dongpo Cultural Resort is now making efforts to build itself as a national 5A-level tourist resort in Hainan.

The general plan to achieve this goal is divided into three phases. These phases are, the planning coordination area (between2012-2015), Dongpo cultural tourism area (between2016-2020) and core tourism area (between 2021-2030).

Under the tourism plan, the project will use land covering a total area of 157.9 km², which will consist of 35.6 km² of water area and 83.3 km² of land area.

Located at the Zhonghe Town of Danzhou City, the Dongpo Cultural Resort is one of the key state-level units for the protection of cultural relics in China.

The first phase of the upgrade will consist of renovation of notable sites, such as historical Dan’er old street and gate in Zhonghe Town, the tourist information center, environmental management on both sides of bridges, and resettlement for local residents.
