An orchid park with an expected output of 60 million strains of orchids will be built in Haikou, capital city of China’s southernmost Hainan province, the Haikou city government said Monday.

The planting base, with a total investment of 500 million yuan (about 75.8 million U.S. dollars), will be the world’s largest orchid planting base upon its completion in four years.

Located in the Longhua district of Haikou, the planting base will cover 666.7 hectares of land, and is expected to bring an output value of 1 billion yuan and provide over 1,000 jobs.

Construction on the planting base will begin this month, and will also include an affiliated resort offering orchid appreciation, summer camping, and tourism services.
