To pray for a blessing in the New Year is an essential practice for holiday celebration. The tradition has a long past. As the New Year approaches, everyone is hopeful about a good life in the coming New Year. Visitors might as well drop in the temples to pray during their vacation days in Hainan.
 
1. Nanshan Temple
 
Nanshan Guanyin statue (Goddess statue)
 
Located in the Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone in Sanya, Hainan Province, Nanshan Temple is mainly composed of the temple, the statue of the Goddess Guanyin, Guanyin Culture Park, Buddhism Culture Exchange Center, vegetarian food street, Shifang Pagoda Forest and Guigen Garden. The 108-meters-tall Guanyin statue ranks the tallest of the outdoor Buddhist sculpture above sea level in the world. If staying in Nanshan Hotel, visitors can burn the first joss stick after lunch.
Admission fee: 150 yuan ($23)
Transportation: take bus No.16 or 21 and get off at Nanshan Si (Nanshan Temple).
What to eat: Nanshan vegetarian food or Nanshan Suzhai. It combines the styles of royal, folk and temple vegetarian food, serves fresh seasonal vegetables and uses modern culinary skills. Due to its unique flavor, delaying senility and beautifying face functions, it is appointed as the reception center for state guests.
2. Wugong Temple (Five Revered Officials Temple 五公祠)
 
Wugong Temple
Built in Wanli’s rule in Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), Wugong Temple was built in memory of the five revered officials who were banished to Hainan Island in Tang (618-907) and Song (960–1279) dynasties. It is a red wooden building of two stories. Due to its long history, it is regarded as the No.1 building in Hainan. Today, Wugong Temple is one of the hottest places for blessings on the island.

Opening hours: 08:00–17:30
Transportation: take bus No.1 or 11 and get off at Wugong Ci (Wugong Temple)
