Hainan duty free rebate for overseas tourists to be implemented from Jan 2011
Hainan is preparing to implement its new tax rebate scheme, from January first. Under the new policy, overseas tourists – as well as visitors from Hong Kong and Macao – can claim tax refunds for 11 percent of their purchases in pilot shops when leaving the mainland.
Local customs authority has held training programs and prepared well ahead. That will guarantee travelers enjoy more efficient services and go through the entire procedure in just two minutes.
Shi Fangxiao, Vice Director of Sanya Customs, Hainan Province said "We began preparations one month ago and practiced walking through the procedures three times a week. That’s to make sure all the staff are familiar with the procedures and enhance efficiency. It’s all set now and we are ready for the implementation of the new policy."
