Tropical Hainan, the best getaway to escape China’s northern winter chill

For winter escape in China, it is one of the best choices. The island has everything that everyone wants in a tropical seaside holiday: blue sky, clear sea, gentle winds, fine beaches and various tropical plants creeping around the seaside.
The followings are the well-chosen scenic spots worth a winter vacation in major cities in Hainan Island. The cities include Sanya, Wenchang and Qionghai.
Scenic spots in Hainan
1. Yalong Bay, Sanya
Yalong Bay, Sanya
Located to the southeast of Sanya, Yalong Bay is a 7.5-km crescent-shaped bay. Also known as the Yalong Bay National Resort, it is one of the most famous scenic spots in Hainan Province. With an average temperature of 25 C throughout the year, Yalong Bay is a good location for a winter escape.
The scenery rivals that in Hawaii. Visitors are attracted by its crystal blue sea, warm sand beaches and endless rolling hills. Its clean sea waters make it a nice place for diving. There are various kinds of tropical fishes. It is an ideal place for relaxation, water sports and scuba-diving.

Transportation: take bus No.15 or tourism line from Sanya city and get off at Yalongwan (Yalong Bay).
2. Dadonghai, Sanya

Dadonghai is located three kilometers southeast of Sanya. It is composed of a crescent-shaped beach surrounded by blue sea. The place is famous for water activities in Sanya and throughout the nation. Due to its mild temperature, diving is possible there in winter. Besides, visitors can enjoy sunbathing, sailing, ocean-fishing and underwater photography.
Transportation: take bus No.2 or 4 from downtown Sanya and get off at Dadonghai.
3. Nantian Hot Spring Resort, Sanya

Located at Nantian Resort district in Haitangwan town of Sanya, Nantian hot spring resort boasts the largest open-air hot spring resort in China. It is about a one-hour drive from Yalong Bay. It is a comprehensive resort combining recreation, vacation, health-preservation, beauty build-up and commercial affairs. The hot springs are abundant in mineral substances and trace elements, which help improve skin quality, activate channels and strengthen the body. The facilities are also completed. 4. Dongjiao Coconut Forest, Wenchang

As a local famous saying goes, "Wenchang produces half of the coconuts in Hainan while Dongjiao produces half of the coconuts in Wenchang", Dongjiao in Wenchang is a vast forest of flourishing coconut trees. There are over 500,000 coconut trees of various kinds.
The glamour of Dongjiao Coconut Forest lies in the tropical coconut culture. There is a coconut park, a couple of seaside holiday resort and many seafood restaurants. Visitors can enjoy coconut juice, fresh seafood and bathe under the sunlight in the coconut forest.

Transportation: take a regular bus from Haikou Dongzhan (Haikou East Bus Station) to Wenchang, and take a minibus or taxi to Dongjiao Coconut Forest.
5. Wuzhi Mountain, Qionghai

Located in Qionghai city in the center of Hainan Island, Wuzhi Mountain is regarded as the symbol of the island. In Chinese, "Wuzhi" means five fingers. It got this name due to its formation and shape. According to the legend, it was the hand of Sakyamuni the Monkey King couldn’t escape from.
As located in a tropical zone, the Wuzhi Mountain is not cold to visit in winter. There are lush mountains, glorious waterfalls and rain forests. Visitors can take a small boat and drift on the mountain river. Besides, the unique custom of local Miao and Li minorities will let visitors know more about the culture of the Chinese ethnic minorities.

Admission fee: 20 yuan for mountain climbing; 50 yuan for the rain forest and 158 yuan for drifting.
