CATAS signs cooperation agreement on tropical crops implantation in Hainan
On November 16, the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS) and China-Africa Agricultural Investment Co., Ltd signed a strategic cooperation agreement on the China Hi-Tech Fair to cooperate in terms of implantation of tropical crops. The Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences will serve the Africa by fully using its advantages in agricultural production technology, operation and management.
According to the strategic agreement, the cooperation orientation and main content of the cooperation between the two parties include ten aspects, namely farmland engineering and water conservancy project; tropical crops implantation cooperation, including seed selection and cultivation, seed industry development, cultivation management, pest control, fruit harvest and storage; processing of tropical crop products and tropical aquatic products, and the research & development of new products; tropical crop-related and tropical aquatic product-related science research; training and technical consultation in tropical crop implantation and processing & tropical aquatic product breeding and processing; demonstration promotion and enterprise operation for tropical crop implantation and processing & tropical aquatic product breeding and processing; deep processing and food processing for tropical crop and aquatic products; development research for relevant national tropical crop industries; other cooperation related to the tropical crop implantation and processing & tropical aquatic product breeding and processing; related cooperation in non-tropical crop implantation and processing & non-tropical aquatic product breeding and processing according as required.
The Government of China and the Republic of Congo signed a cooperation protocol between the two countries in 2008. The Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences signed a construction contract about the Congo-support agricultural technology demonstration center project with the Republic of Congo. This project has three functions of test & research, training & demonstration promotion and agricultural sustainable development. The demonstrations are mainly about technologies for implantation of cassava, corn and vegetables, and chicken breeding.
