Casa Mia

From the moment we arrived, Stefano Berziga (the Italian owner) and his wife Sophia made us feel at home, In fact "Casa Mia" the name of this restaurant means "My Home", and he is very welcoming. We started with an aperitif Martini Rosso and a Bianco; they were served promptly and at just the right temperature, followed quickly by an assorted bread basket, olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

The waiting staff were very accommodating in seating us in the right position to take advantage of the air-conditioning and the view through the expansive plate glass from window, had it been an evening meal we would have chosen to sit on the outside terrace and listen to the sea which is just across the road.

We ordered antipasto of grilled vegetables and bruschetta, the vegetables were grilled and marinated to perfection and the bruschetta still warm from the grill.

Our next course was a serve of minestrone, the hearty Italian Vegetable Soup as you would find in the Italian countryside, and I had the Seafood Soup, they take advantage of the wonderful local seafood, packed with shelled prawns, baby squid and vongole (clams) all on a tomato and garlic broth.

For main course we enjoyed the Spaghetti Alla Matriciana a spicy tomato, bacon, olive sauce, and the Spaghetti Allo Scoglio, again taking advantage of the high quality fresh seafood that Sanya is famous for, the spaghetti is cooked after you order, not as so many wana-be Italian restaurants who cook pasta before hand and just warm it up when the client orders, no this was done in true Italian style, pasta cooked "all momento" – "at the time of ordering" and it was perfect al-dente only as pasta should be.

We finished up with and Espresso and Limoncello, in true Italian dinning style, it was a wonderful experience and diversion from the overrated so called 5 start resort restaurants in the area, and from the overly numerous Chinese Restaurants.

Their Menu is enormous as it the Wine list, the Chinese Waiting Staff are well trained in Western Dinning, it is a credit to the passionate owners of Casa Mia, I can highly recommend this restaurant, and can vouch for the authenticity of this review, it is the first time that I have written a review even though I travel the world up to 8 months of the year, I have never been so motivated to spend this time writing a review before.
