The south China port city, Haikou, is planning to build a man-made island for the development and construction of a giant 250,000 ton-class cruise port and related facilities, according to the Haikou Municipal Government.

The city is to build the island 2 km off the north side of the west coast of Haikou city. As well as the cruise facilities there will be an international yacht club, an ocean theme park and duty-free shops, all to be completed by 2018.

Haikou is located on the north side of Hainan island, China’s most popular sub-tropical getaway. Along with Sanya, Hainan has two of the fastest growing cruise sites in China.
