Yachting industry grows fast in Sanya
Recently, the Ministry of Transport approved the trial opening-up of Sanya waters, and ratified temporary opening-up for the waters of Nanshan and Haitang Bay in Sanya. The trial in selected ports will last for half a year, and normalization needs further approval.
With the new regulations, the area of open waters in Sanya ports is enlarged from 119.2 to 502.5 square kilometers, which is 3.22 times the original. The shoreline length is expanded by 3 times, from 40km to about 160 km.
What will the expansion of open waters bring to Sanya and Hainan province? "This will directly drive the growth of yacht industry in Sanya city, and enhance the common development of various industries related to the yacht industry chain. "said Zuo Zhenghe, head of Sanya Coast Defense Port Office.
Sanya’s marinas are full of yachts, big and small, sailing in and out of port.
In recent years, the yacht industry has developed rapidly. "There are now eight marinas, such as Hong Zhou, Mid Peninsula, Phoenix Plaza, and Yalong Bay. There are 768 yacht berths in Sanya port. The number currently in development is over 2,000. When these are complete, the number of yacht berths in Sanya will be the highest in China. There will be 7,700 and 23,500 yachts attracting consumers in Hainan in 2020 and 2030 respectively, with an annual increase rate within 10 percent to15 percent, said Liu Limin, secretary general of the Sanya Yachting Association.
"During Spring Festival this year, there were few tourists taking yachts. However, families taking yacht tours are increasing rapidly, with each boat now sailing out 3 to 4 times a day.", said Zuo Zhenghe, who further mentioned that accommodation, shopping and entertainment spending will also increase due to increased yacht tourism.
The economic and social benefits brought by the increasing number of yachts sailing into the harbor are obvious. At present, yacht maintenance, manufacturing and sailing markets in Sanya are increasingly mature, with the number of yacht-related professionals reaching 4,000. "It is critical for sailors to be familiar with routes, tides, climate, submerged reefs, as well as the structure and power of the yachts." said Xiao Tian, a sailor with yacht sailing license. Experienced yachting professionals are still in short supply in the area.
"I’m accustomed to seeing the natural scenery in Sanya and want to tour on sea by yacht to feel something new. I have already brought my family sailing four or five times and I want to go again if possible. "said a tourist named Tang Zhengxin.
Opening-up boosting infrastructure construction
Because of the expansion of open waters, it is necessary to build matching infrastructure, including docks, temporary checkpoints and the layout of such industries as logistics, shopping, supply and maintenance.
The expansion of open waters is also beneficial to the development of various competitions and events in Hainan and the construction of competition facilities. In recent years, there have been many international yachts and sailing competitions in Sanya, such as the Volvo Sailing Competition, UIM International Offshore Class 1 Powerboat Championships, Sinan Cup Regatta, Round Hainan Sailing Competition, etc. "The launch of such events has not only attracted a lot of tourists, but also enhanced the improvement of all infrastructure in Sanya city.", said Zuo Zhenghe.
