China’s only sailing boat to compete in the 2014/15 Volvo Ocean Race, the “Volvo Ocean 65 Dongfeng”, made its debut on February 26 at the Sanya Serenity Marina, the Official Training Base for Dongfeng Race Team.

At the same time, after two rounds of selection trials, an elite training squad, which consists of 12 Chinese athletes, lined up at the Official Christening of the Volvo Ocean 65 Dongfeng.

Besides, Charles Caudrelier, one of the world’s leading sailors, has been announced as the skipper to helm Team Dongfeng for the grueling near nine-month, 39,379 mile challenge.

Knut Frostad, president of the Volvo Ocean Race, said Team Dongfeng allows the potential Chinese sailors to get involved in a top sailing event, which will greatly help improve the development of China’s water sports.

Team Dongfeng, representing China, is the third campaign so far to announce its participation in the 12th edition of the world’s leading crewed offshore race that will start on October 4, 2014 in Alicante, Spain
