China’s southern island province of Hainan has made great efforts to promote the development of its yachting industry, after the plan of building itself into an international tourism island was upgraded to a national strategy.

Hainan will build more than 13,500 yacht berths during the 12th Five-Year Plan period (2011-2015), according to information from the 2011 Hainan Yachting Industry Development Summit in Sanya.

In 2009, the central government made the yachting industry an important part of the strategy of building Hainan into an international tourism island. At present, there are six yacht manufacturers, more than 60 yacht sales and service companies, and 35 yacht clubs in Hainan province.
