According to the Sanya Government, the new stopover port for the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012 is ongoing and will be completed in November and the route for the sailing competition has been initially decided, reports hainan.net.
The race is scheduled to start in Alicante on 29th October and during the following nine months the teams will sail over the world’s most treacherous seas and stop at 9 ports including Cape Town, Abu Dhabi, Auckland and Miami. The boats are expected to arrive in Sanya on Feb. 4th.
At present, the route plan for the sailing competition has been initially made and it will be submitted to the organizing committee for final confirmation.
There will be a full schedule of activities ahead of the start of the sailing, including the important in-port racing, which counts points towards the overall winner’s trophy and a Pro-Am Race.
Sanya is busy building the stopover to be a perfect place for crews to prepare the boats for the next test in the race and for guests to enjoy the ambience and unique atmosphere this ocean classic generates.
