Sanya considered as one stage of America’s Cup in 2012
America’s Cup sailing competition, first held in the middle of 19th Century with a history over 150 years, is one of the world’s oldest sporting competitions. It is the third-biggest sporting event in the world, behind the Olympics and the Soccer World Cup.
Richard Worth, the Chairman of America’s Cup Organization showed his great interest on having Sanya as one of the venue for the sport of sailing after inspecting a comprehensive of element for holding the event.
Compared with several venues for the event, Mr. Worth preferred Sanya Bay as suitable venue for showcasing world-class maritime and sporting event with
"If decided, We will fully cooperate with the organizing committee to make great efforts to build Sanya into a popular destination for the sailing sport," said the Director of Sanya Culture and Sports Bureau.
