China Team has become the eighth challenger to enter the 34th America’s Cup, which will be sailed on San Francisco Bay in 2013.
A ninth challenger is scheduled to announce its entry before Thursday’s deadline. The winner of the Louis Vuitton Cup challenger series will meet defending champion Oracle Racing for the oldest trophy in international sports.
China Team made its America’s Cup debut in 2007, finishing last in the Louis Vuitton Cup.
An America’s Cup World Series will begin this year in 45-foot catamarans with wing sails. The America’s Cup itself will be contested in 72-foot, wing-sailed catamarans, which will come on line next year.
