Over 200 bicycle lovers from various industries in Sanya went cycling around the city to advocate low-carbon and green transportation to mark the annual World Car Free Day on September 21st.

The cyclists began their trip at Jiefang Road in the center of Sanya city and pedaled through Chunyuan Road, Xinfeng Bridge, Hedong Road, Linchunhe Road and Yuechuan Bridge to reach their destination at the office of the Sanya Cycling Association.

According to the organizers, the oldest participant was 70 years old and youngest was 10.

“Green transportation is the future of city development. Citizens should protect the environment by taking mass transit, cycling or walking,” said an official at the event.

World Car-Free Day is on September 22 every year, which encourages motorists to give up their car for a day. Organized events for the special day have been held in some cities in China in recent years, in cities such as Xiamen, Chengdu, Shanghai, Beijing and Wuhan.
