Kenya becomes biggest winner in Haikou Int’l Beach Marathon
Haikou International Beach Marathon 2013, China’s first beach marathon, kicked off on Saturday on the Holiday Beach in Haikou, southern China’s Hainan Province.
In the men’s 10-km event, Sylas Kimutai Chebogel from Kenya won the title with a time of 36 minutes and 38 seconds. Kenyan Henry Cheruiyot Kosgei and Ethiopian Assegid Teshome Abebe finished second and the third in 36:49 and 36:54 respectively.
In the women’s 10-km race, Kenyan runner Rodah Jepkorir Tanui took the first in 42:50. Megertu Ifa Geletu from Ethiopia and Jacinta Wambui Wanjohi from Kenya won the second and third places in 44:01 and 44:24 respectively.
The beach marathon, the largest of the kind in Asia, attracted a total of 402 professional runners and amateurs from 21 countries and regions.
