Wanning of Hainan is set to maintain its position as a national premier surfing destination, with local government unveiling plans to build a surfing training base, create a surfing club and host Asia’s largest trade fair center for surfing products in 2013 at a media conference at Riyue Bay on Thursday.

The surfing training base and the surf club at the Riyue Bay will be the country’s first purpose-built surfing training facilities to support the elite local surfers’ development.

Surfing in Riyue Bay has become an important part of Wanning culture and today international surfing competitions including Swatch Girl Pro China and the ASP Men's World Longboard Championships have chosen Wanning as the permanent location for their respective annual events.

Along with the new national surfing facilities, the government will continue to organize a series of large-scale sports events to promote its reputation with high performance system and culture to the world.
