Hainan Provincial Government signs to cooperate with Sun Yat-sen University

The Hainan Provincial Government signed an Alliance Agreement of Industries, Universities and Research Institutes with Sun Yat-sen University on the afternoon of September 17 in Hainan State Guest Hotel in Haikou City. The two parties will carry out pragmatic and deep cooperation in terms of science & research and transformation of scientific & research achievements, talent cultivation and training, medical treatment and public health and inter-university exchange.

Luo Baoming, Vice Secretary of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee and Hainan Governor, and Huang Daren, President of Sun Yat-sen University, were present at the signing ceremony and made speeches. Lin Fanglue, Vice Governor and Li Ping, Vice Secretary of Party Committee and Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University signed on the agreement respectively on behalf of the two parties. The signing ceremony was chaired by Xu Zhuang, Secretary-General of Hainan Provincial Government. During the ceremony, Hainan University also signed alliance agreement with Sun Yat-sen University.

According to the Alliance Agreement of Industries, Universities and Research Institutes, the Sun Yat-sen University will give full play to its advantages in science & technology and talents, substantially support and actively take part in the construction of Hainan International Tourism Destination; while Hainan Province will also offer relevant supports for all cooperation with the Sun Yat-sen University. The two parties will start cooperation in terms of science & research and transformation of scientific & research achievements, talent cultivation and training, medical treatment and public health and inter-university exchange, including building research & development base, exploring and establishing Hainan Tourism Research Institute, constructing “Hainan Digital Tourism Island Research Institute”, etc.. However, in line with the Alliance Agreement between Hainan University and Sun Yat-sen University, the latter will receive in target the excellent fresh graduates who have had the postgraduate-examination-free qualifications to study for postgraduate degrees in relevant majors without examinations.

Luo Baoming said in his speech that the Sun Yat-sen University singed alliance agreements with Hainan University and the Hainan Provincial Government respectively, which symbolized that our time-honored pragmatic cooperation had developed to a new level. He spoke highly of the outstanding contributions to the national development and social progress made by Sun Yat-sen University for more than eighty years. Luo said that the Sun Yat-sen University had recruited over 1,400 students only since the foundation of special economic zone in Hainan Province, many of whom came back to Hainan after finishing their studies and became backbones for the economic and social development of Hainan. These talents were the most important productive forces for the development of Hainan Province. For the past few years, the Sun Yat-sen University successively carried out fruitful cooperation with Hainan University, Qiongzhou Univerisity, Yangpu Bonded Port Area, Lingao County and Sanya Hospital and played an important role regarding improving the level of education, medical treatment and scientific research and speeding up the construction of talented workforce and informationization.

After introducing the fact that the construction of Hainan International Tourism Destination had been updated to national strategy and Hainan will expect a historical opportunity to accelerate the development, Luo Baoming said that as the biggest special economic zone of provincial level, Hainan was facing new opportunities and challenges; therefore scientific, technological, talent and intelligent supports were urgently required and greet assistance from domestic and foreign famous universities were needed. The cooperation between the Sun Yat-sen University and Hainan University would definitely blaze a trail for quickening the combination of industries, universities and research institutes in Hainan, setting up high-end platform for improving the independent innovation ability of Hainan and offering powerful motive force for the construction of Hainan International Tourism Destination. It is believed that the cooperation will have fruitful achievements with the mutual efforts.

Hong Daren said in his speech that the cooperation between Sun Yat-sen University and Hainan University was age-old and had deep origins. In the present day when Hainan is constructing its International Tourism Destination, this burgeoning province also provides a winder platform for the development of Sun Yat-sen University and the alliance in industries, universities and research institutes between the two parties. Huang said that only mutual benefit was worthy of the great kindness and generosity of Hainan Province and was able to make the cooperation enduring. In the days to come, the Sun Yat-sen University will, based on its own educational and scientific research resources, more actively and industriously promote the cooperation in construction of medial treatment & public health and educational research & development base and tourism research institutes among universities in Hainan Province to make contributions to the construction of Hainan International Tourism Destination.
