After opening direct flights between Manila and Beijing early this month, Cebu Pacific is now planning to fly to Hainan Island via Macau. The Filipino low-cost carrier signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Haikou Airport last week to open a route from Clark Airport in Manila to Haikou via the MSAR, Flight Daily News reported.
'This is the first stage', Cebu Pacific's director revenue and pricing, Alexander Lao, said. 'The Hainan government is helping us lobby Beijing to enable us to fly via Macau.'
'We have the aircraft ready to go but it is dependent on us being able to stop in Macau. Hainan is optimistic this will happen,' Lao added.

Hainan has seen rapid expansion of tourism, with millions of visitors coming from Russia, Japan, Korea and the rest of China. Over the past five years, international flights to Hainan Island have increased from five to 61.
