Datian Thamin Preserve

Datian Thamin Preserve, 20 km away from downtown Dongfang (东方市), covers an area of 2,000 hectares. As a national nature reserve, it is the habitat of more than 800 thamins and another 100-plus sorts of wild animals.

Thamin, like the giant panda and golden monkey, is rare animal of the country. It is a graceful type of deer, swift and elegant, and it can leap over a ravine five meters wide when startled.

The edge of hillside with thick bushes and weeds is its favorite place for its activities. Thamin also loves the color of red so much that they come out and roam in groups at sunrise and sunset. These are the best times to appreciate them at observation tower in the reserve.

Address: Dongfang City, Hainan, China
