Asian Beach Volleyball Championship kicks off in south China
The Asian Beach Volleyball Championship 2010 kicked off Thursday on the Holiday Beach in Haikou, capital city of south China’s Hainan Province.
The Championship, one of the professional beach volleyball events sponsored by the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC), draws 49 professional beach volleyball teams from 17 countries and regions in Asia Pacific, including Indonesia, the Philippines, Iran, Japan, Australia, Singapore, Kazakhstan, Oman, Malaysia, Yemen, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vanuatu, Vietnam and hosts China.
Olympic bronze medalists Xue Chen and Zhang Xi will lead the Chinese squad of 12 players at the event which offers a total prize money of 100,000 U.S. dollars.
This is the second consecutive year the Asian championship is held in China.
