Joanna Klatten held a one-stroke lead after the opening round of the Sanya Ladies Open in China.

The Frenchwoman fared best in high winds to card a three-under-par 69 at the Yalong Bay Golf Club.

Countrywoman Celine Palomar was tied for second place with Numa Gulyanamitta after they both went around in two under.

“I don’t think I’ve ever driven the ball this well,” Klatten told www.ladieseuropeantour.com.

“I’ve been getting too technical so now my coach wants me not to think about anything other than the target.

“I’m playing a little more quickly and it helps – you get in front of the ball and grip it and rip it.”

Defending champion Frances Bondad was one over after dropping two shots on the last three holes.
