After 3 years of preparation, the Sanya Dan People Cultural Hall opened its doors to the public at Fishing Village on Nanbianhai Area, Tianya District on September 28th, 2015.

The cultural hall consists of eight themed-sections including ancient history, cultural folks, living traditions, fishing production and Xianshui folk song.

The hall houses more than 1,000 art works, ranging from fishing tools, model ships, costumes to historical pictures, panoramically presenting the great changes and development of Dan People over the past years.

The Xianshui Song is a very old traditional folk song formed by Dan fishermen in Sanya. The Xianshui folk song involves fishing activities and customs, which are valuable to tourism.

Boat-dwelling Dan communities have existed in Hainan for centuries. Once forbidden from living on land, they have made a watery life on the rivers and estuaries of coastal regions, setting up their buoyant villages for a generation at a time.

The fishing village on Nanbianhai Road at Sanya Port area is home to several communities of Dan People. They have been able to retain their distinctive charm and beauty which ever-more tourists visit to appreciate.
