Highlights in Haikou during 2014 Hainan Carnival
The 15th Hainan Carnival will begin on Dec. 12th in Haikou, and events featuring Hainan’s cuisine, tourism, lodging, shopping, entertainment, and more, will be held in and around the city as part of the yearly festival.
This year’s festival theme is “Take a Deep Breath in Haikou.” The opening ceremony will be held in Dec. 12 from 8-9 PM at Mission Hill’s Feng Xiaogang Movie Town. In accordance with the environmental theme of the festival, all the activities will be low carbon, low environmental impact. After the ceremony, guests will be invited to view a Feng Xiaogang movie, see a Haikou traditional cultural show, try their hand at traditional folk arts and crafts, and taste some of the local cuisine.
Main Events:
1. The opening of China Fragrance Street, located on the west side of Haikou’s Century Bridge, which will feature a Hainan Eaglewood Market.
2. Unveiling of Hainan Carnival Sponsoring Brands and Eaglewood Mascot
3. The Thousand Chicken Feast for the Elderly
4. Giant Bowl of Volcano-grown Selenium Rich Rice
5. North Hainan Food Festival, which will be held from Dec. 5-8 in Haidian Island’s Baishamen Park
6. Hainan Opera Performance
7. The Giant Rubber Duck created by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman will be on display
8. The Opening of the Hainan Buddhist Relic Museum
9. Tourism Industry Launch Ceremony
10. Awards Ceremony for the 3rd Rural Tourism Village Winners
11. Haikou “Discount Season”, with many local businesses and attractions offering deep discounts during the festival period
12. Yanfeng Town Model Village North Hainan Specialty Street Investment Promotion Ceremony
13. “Green with Love for You” 2014 Fifth Haikou Tourism Wedding Festival
14. Stories of North Hainan Book release ceremony
During the festival, many local attractions will offer free or half-price admission. These include:
