Tourists visiting the Li and Miao Ecological Cultural Tourism Area of Ganza Ridge Areca Valley (Binglanggu Valley for short) can soon enjoy a fascinating Hainan ethnic dance performance—‘Ancient Rhyme of Binglang’.

Staged entirely at the Binglanggu Valley, the ‘Ancient Rhyme of Binglang’ is a grand open-air show of music and dance featuring about 140 performers. First initiated in 2010, the ‘Ancient Rhyme of Binglang’ deploys the aboriginal huts and its surroundings as props to create a life-like background for the dance.

Through the vividly performed folklores, the performance exhibits the deep-rooted Li ethnic minority’s culture and showcases the wisdom they have gained leading simple and pure lives on the island over countless generations.

With the combination of the natural environment and the dances, audiences are able to get a true feel for the day-to-day lives of the indigenous people who live there and an appreciation of the Li and Miao cultures. The intangible cultural treats from these groups include the practices of “Making Fire by Rubbing Sticks”, the making of the “Brocades of the Li Ethnic Group” and “Quilts made from Tree bark” as well as their “Traditional Bamboo Musical Instruments.”
