Sixty-eight Chinese and foreign couples attended the 2013 Sanya International Wedding Festival held in southern China’s Hainan Island on December 12, 2013.
Sanya is the only tropical seaside city of China and famous for its charming sea views and romantic atmosphere. The well-known Tianya Haijiao Rocks (meaning ‘the edges of the heaven, corners of the sea’) are a symbol of everlasting love in the eyes of the Chinese.
In Chinese literature, the name of the place is mentioned in many famous poems and it is a popular honeymoon destination for newlyweds.
To promote tourism, Sanya has sponsored an annual large-scale international wedding festival since 1996. It attracts hundreds of couples every December from China and abroad who hold their wedding or wedding anniversaries at the tourist spot.
