Topic: Are we in the 'Forever Torpical Paradise' yet?

came to Sanya many times. I always stayed in Da Dong Hai. I love being here! As aÍâ¹úÈË (foreigner), I've always felt welcomed. Over the last years I've seen many changes. Almost all are 'good or great' and some are 'impressive', not unlike what I've seen most everywhere in China!

This year, to my surprise, my main 'complaint', the all-through-the-night fireworks, 'went away'! There were posts on WOS explaining why it will be difficult and it will take time to curb this late night custom. But they did seem to stop! At least in Da Dong Hai they did!

I recently noticed signs posted by the bus stations, signs mobilizing people to strive for a 'civilized Sanya' and similarly, calls for a clean 'Blue Ocean' posted at the Intime Hotel. The signs suggest we could and should all participate.

And … I do believe that a little heartfelt nudge from local authorities can significantly speed up the process!

If such a big shift from the long accepted practice of all-night-long fireworks can be made, I'm very hopeful that not too long from now:

1.There will be (much) fewer car drivers getting around while constantly pressing down on their (way too) loud horns.

2.The great Da Dong Hai beach will look much cleaner early in the morning, because the visitors will find more appropriate locations to discard their emptied coconut shells, beer bottles, soda cans, cigarette boxes and food wrappers. Not to mention the hundreds of disposable plastic mouth guards so casually discarded by SCUBA divers and washed every morning, in large numbers, on the shore next to Shan Hai Tian hotel.

This will do, in my opinion, much more to preserve the fragile coral reefs then the closing of the cliff path next to the Shan Hai Tian Hotel. (Reference to an earlier posting on WOS)

Once this happens, comparing Da Dong Hai to Hawaii's Waikiki Beach will become more appropriate.

3.The not very hygienic but much too common, orange-red sidewalk stains resulting from chewing a local favorite lime-looking fruit, will disappear.

4.As I learned on WOS, the plans to move the fishing boats flotilla to more appropriate locations will be put in motion.

If all these happen, next time I visit Sanya we will be much closer to be living in the touted 'Forever Tropical Paradise'!

Cheers, AIC78

I stand corrected: the (IMHO) desgusting custom of chewing the lime-loking furits and spitting the 'proceeds' on the sidwalk has returned with vengeance!

They now not only 'paint' with the disgusting red spit the downtown streets, it also moved to the Da Dong Hai restaurant row boardwalk too!

I was encouraged last spring seeing the new 'civilized Sanya-civilized Sanya people' posters. It seems 'progress' sometimes takes undesired paths. I'm sure, one day, the red stains will dissapear.

Meanwhile, I should at least note that the Da Dong Hai beach is now much cleaner than in the recent past. So, at least this is much more 'civilized'!
