Topic: Friday the 13th
Although I've had a fair innings in China already, I'm still not sure how locals see this traditionally unlucky day. I've heard of all sorts of superstitions in China, from jumping ghosts attacking people in their bedrooms to getting rich by taking pictures with certain statues. Now I'm wondering, what would happen if one takes a picture of a statue that's supposed to bring one good fortune on a day like Friday the 13th?

I make sure to sleep with my pendant of Buddha on my neck on the Friday, the 13th.

How long have you been doing that and does it work?
Strangely enough, my Chinese girlfriend who doesn't make anything out of Friday the 13th, woke up in the middle of the night last night, crying uncontrollably. Wonder if that's mere coincidence?

513 is considerred very bad luck by many Malaysian Chinese. May 13th in 1969 was the darkest day in Malaysian history. Some 2000 or more Chinese were slaughtered by the Malay rioters, the Malaysian police and Malaysian Army.

I personally don't like the Affirmative Action policies of my country. But, Malaysia has always been a safe place to live and visit. 513 was a one off incident then.
I am not at any time in danger of being slaughtered.

It's kinda meaningless in China, like lucky 7. To them 4 is unlucky since it sounds similar to death. So you wont see number 4, 14 etc. in some lifts.
coco7373. I kinda admire you're confidence, but I would just like to remind you of the lyrics to the rock epic by the Rolling Stones Gimme Shelter, especially the lines "Rape, murder; It's just a shot away, It's just a shot away,". Although modern music is basically just a money making enterprise the fact remains that if you put enough monkeys in a room each with a typewriter eventually one of them will come up with Hamlet. i.e. they have a point (WW1 for example)
